Target: $10,000 to establish an endowed fund so this scholarship
can be awarded for many years
Larry Zeiger retired in June of 2007, one of the longest serving PLHS
teachers in history. He taught English and Film Studies and annually
staged an
all-student original musical under the “Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance” banner.
To recognize the impact that Mr. Zeiger has had on countless Pointers
for more than 30 years, and to continue that tradition, the Point Loma
High School Pointer Association established a new scholarship
for graduating seniors: Zeiger Scholars.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, this scholarship will
be awarded annually to a senior with financial need, to recognize the student’s
participation in the areas of visual arts, performing arts or film production.
Larry participated in defining the criteria for his scholarship, and each
year he will make the final selection of the winner.”
Your donation will fund the PLHSPA Zeiger Scholars scholarship which
will be given out yearly. (First awarded in June 2008.)
If we reach our goal of $10,000 it will allow us to establish an endowment
fund that will allow this scholarship to be given for many years.

" Larry is all about opening up opportunities for
students and creating community"
- Friend and colleague, Gene Bier
Once a Pointer, Always a Pointer!
Larry's students were inspired through his ability to help
them dream bigger dreams than they ever imagined possible. Larry retired
this
June after 33 years of teaching at PLHS.
As a teacher of English, cinema studies and musical theater, Larry brought
his creative, boundless enthusiasm and energy to the classroom every single
day.
Over 3,000 students participated in Larry's Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance musical
productions over the years.
Larry regularly reports on the successes of his former students, including
many who chose to pursue careers in the visual and performing arts.
As he said on the last night of his last show this June, Larry considers many
of these former students to be his best friends.
